About

Hi, I'm Ally.

Ally Sy, registered dietitian

I've had the privilege of working with so many children, teens, young adults, and their families on their health and their relationship with food. I specialize in feeding and eating disorders, and I would love to learn more about how I can help you and your family.

I believe that every body deserves a safe space to learn about nutrition and food, free of judgment and bias. I promise to take the time to get to know you and to provide individualized, holistic care, so that you feel as empowered as possible to make the nutrition decisions that work best for you.

A decade in adolescent nutrition

I studied clinical nutrition at UC Davis, completed my master's degree and dietetic internship at the University of Memphis, and trained at Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. As a clinical pediatric dietitian at Stanford Children's Health, I served as the primary dietitian for the Comprehensive Care Program, working alongside national leaders in Family-Based Treatment and adolescent eating disorder medicine. It was there that I developed the ARFID feeding protocol for the eating disorder inpatient unit.

In 2019 I joined The Healthy Teen Project, an eating disorder treatment program for adolescents in the Bay Area, and became its Director of Nutrition in 2022. I've cared for hundreds of teens through partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment, and I've sat with hundreds of parents in the hardest season of their family's life. In 2020 I opened my own telehealth practice, My Nutrition Ally, and I am now focused on it full time.

I also contribute to the science. I was part of the research team studying higher-calorie refeeding for anorexia nervosa, published in JAMA Pediatrics and Pediatrics, work that has changed how hospitals renourish young patients. I co-edited Springer's clinical handbook on ARFID in adolescents, and I speak regularly at professional conferences on ARFID nutrition care.
